About the practice
Where are you located?
Sidney Sound & Hearing Services has two Southeast Tennessee offices: 815 Englewood Road in Madisonville (Monroe County) and 85C Mouse Creek Road NW in Cleveland (Bradley County).
What are your hours?
The Madisonville office is open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Cleveland office is available by appointment. Call (423) 545-3022 or (423) 503-3832 to schedule.
Are you locally owned?
Yes. Sidney Sound is independently owned and operated by Sidney Laher, who founded the practice in 2014. We’re not a chain or franchise.
What are your specialists’ credentials?
Sidney Laher and Whitney Justice are both board-certified hearing instrument specialists (BC-HIS), licensed by the State of Tennessee.
Hearing tests
How do I know if I need a hearing test?
Schedule an evaluation if you frequently ask people to repeat themselves, turn the TV up louder than others prefer, struggle to follow conversation in noisy places, or hear ringing in your ears. A baseline test is a good idea by age 50.
What happens during a hearing evaluation?
Your evaluation includes a review of your hearing history, an ear inspection, pure-tone audiometry to measure your hearing thresholds, and speech testing. It takes about 60 minutes and you receive your results the same day.
Does a hearing test cost anything?
Many insurance plans cover diagnostic hearing evaluations. We verify your benefits before your visit and explain any costs up front.
Hearing aids
Which brands do you carry?
We carry five major brands: Signia, Widex, Oticon, Starkey, and GN ReSound, in every style from invisible-in-canal to behind-the-ear.
How much do hearing aids cost?
Pricing depends on the technology and features that fit your lifestyle, and it includes fitting, programming, and follow-up care. We explain your options candidly, and financing is available.
Is there a trial period?
Yes. After your fitting you live with your devices for two weeks of real-life use, then come back so we can fine-tune based on how they actually sound for you.
Tinnitus & other services
Can you help with ringing in my ears?
Yes. We provide tinnitus evaluation and management, including sound therapy and hearing technology with tinnitus-masking features. For many patients, treating an underlying hearing loss reduces the tinnitus.
Do you remove earwax?
Yes. We provide safe, professional earwax (cerumen) removal, often with same-day appointments. Please avoid cotton swabs and ear candles at home.
Do you repair hearing aids from other providers?
Yes. We service and repair hearing aids of all major brands, regardless of where you bought them, with most repairs completed the same day.
